Studio & DIY Gear

I've been dj'ing since 1997 and I've produced / released a bunch of stuff since i started in ~1999.   I've been a gear whore ever since, going from hardware -> pc setup -> back.   I love the feel of hardware, I love the sound of it and I love that I can **PLAY** my rig rather then just sit and click /drag boxes around on my screen.  Admittedly, I don't spend nearly enough time in it..

Things I've built

Analog Synthesis

I started dabbling with Analog synthesis when i was just out of high school.  I built little oscillator circuits first, then filters, envelope generators and so on.   Over time, I ammassed a modular mess, which I'm in the process of repackaging / reviving (slowly):

On the top is my "Analog Milkalizer"..    It's 2xVCO, 2xLFO, 2xVCF, 2xADSR.  It was hard patched and used a number of toggle/rotary switches and potentiometers to handle all the routing.   I later decided it would be better served as modular and disassembled alot of it.   Under that is PAIA Quadrafuzz followed by a rackmount VCF.   The last two rows are a mishmash of stuff, namely Thomas Henry Mega Percussive Synth, UDF1 Bassdrum, Liquid Hihats, THAT2180 Based VCA and a hacked Korg Monotron.

Alot of this is hand-wired point-to-point bread board stuff..   NEVER AGAIN!

Analog Drums!

I'm an absolute sucker for analog drums!    Fortunately for me, Hex Inverter (http://www.hexinverter.net) created a line of 808/909 drum modules!   I built pretty much every one and did a case and panels on my CNC Router!  I have 808/909 Bass Drum, 808 Tom, 808 HiHats, 808 Cowbell, 909 rim, 909 clap, 909 snare.   MMMM TASTY!

Arduino Based RGB Button Pad Sequencer

All those tasty drums, definately need something to control them!   I set out to create the beast pictured above.   The RGB matrix shows 2 bars and the controls let you scroll thru and set values and such.

Analog Dub Siren w/ Delay

A friend of mine is big into reggae and asked me to make a Dub siren.  I made two actually!    I used an Atari Punk console circuit, coupled with LFO and PT2399 Delay from http://www.synthrotek.com
If i get my hands on them again, I'll likely adjust the potentiometer values a little bit to eliminate some of the deadspots.

Midibox Controller  / Midibox SID

I love the projects at ucApps.de.   I've built alot of them over the years, but the two that have stuck around are my controller and my SID. I've gotta snap a pic of the SID, but heres the controller on top below. This was my first microcontroller project and is probably about 12 years old now!

Audino1012

I wanted to experiment with arduino based audio synthesis.   I created a shield which could do 4 oscillators using an I2C Digital->Analog converter.  I used some sort of wierd wavetable setup I devised which produced some funky waveforms indeed!  I put it in a case with a PT2399 Delay and an analog filter.

Shruthi-1 from MutableInstruments

This is an AWESOME synthesizer and I had a blast building it!  Special thanks to my inlaws for the super sweet birthday gift!

PT2399 Delay / TS909 Clone Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are always a fun build.  Here we've got a PT2399 delay with 555Based Modulation from Synthrotek (green) and a homebrew TS909 Tubescreamer clone (black/pink)

Sonic Potions LXR

Arguably my favorite piece of kit!   http://www.sonic-potions.com     Digital Drum Synthesis at its best!

Studio Desk

I had to leave this in California unfortunately, but this beast took me and a friend a few weeks to make.   It came out great, but was HUGE!
